Helen Rinaldis works as Scripture Union managed chaplain at Agnes Water State School. She is happily married to Nick (both of them for the second time), who is very supportive and lives in the bushland at Captain Creek. Between them they have five grown children and four beautiful grandchildren who are of school age.
Helen has just completed her first 12 months as a chaplain. Prior to working as a chaplain, she worked as a teacher aide in special education, accountancy clerk, support worker for disabled people and finance manager for a nursing home. She is currently studying for a University Certificate of Theology by distance education with Charles Sturt University in Canberra. She is supported in her work by the Baptist, Anglican and Catholic congregations where she worships.
Helen is accountable to the Local Chaplaincy Committee, the Principal of Agnes Water State School and the District Co-ordinator for Scripture Union. She is available to support staff, students and their families for 2½ days per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On most mornings Helen can be seen doing ‘stump duty’, sitting on a tree stump beside the footpath as she welcomes students to the school for the day.
A regular visitor to the classrooms, Helen also conducts an AWSUM club on Tuesdays at lunchtime when students are able to attend a Christian activity program. New students to our school receive a card with a small treat during their first week and Helen also celebrates each child’s birthday by giving them a card and treat.
